UFC 129

As some of you may know, UFC 129 is going to be the first UFC event held in the province of Ontario since they legalized it back in August of 2010. As far as I'm concerned, it's going to be a very good card as well:

Welterweight Championship bout: Canada Georges St-Pierre (c) vs. United States Jake Shields
Featherweight Championship bout: Brazil José Aldo (c) vs. Canada Mark Hominick
Light Heavyweight bout: Belarus Vladimir Matyushenko vs. United States Jason Brilz
Light Heavyweight bout: United States Randy Couture vs. Brazil Lyoto Machida
Lightweight bout: Canada Mark Bocek vs. United States Ben Henderson

Two of my favourite fighters are taking part in this event too. Georges St-Pierre, the current welterweight champion, is going up against Jake Shields. A UFC newcomer, whom has quite a resume from his time in Strikeforce. He is on a 15 fight winning streak, and has some impressive victories over Martin Kampmann, Dan Henderson, Yushin Okami, and others. I think this will be a great fight.

My second favourite is Lyoto Machida. Although he has lost his last 2 fights, one against Shogun Rua, and the other against Rampage Jackson. I'm not sure how he's going to fare against a UFC veteran like Randy Couture, but as a fan, I hope that he fights his heart out and comes out on top.

Until next time boys and girls, have a great weekend! :)

Waiting for a phone call

Well for the past 2 weeks I've been waiting for the phone call that could change my whole life forever.
First, a little story about why it's so important.
Back in October, I made the decision to apply for the Canadian Forces under the Regular Officer Training Program. Basically what this means is that the Canadian Forces pays for me to go to their university (Royal Military College), or they front the money to send me to a civilian university. This is a very competitive program, and only about 500 applicants make it every year or so.
As far as marks go, I think I'm pretty set. I graduated with an 86% average after taking a semester after I had finished grade 12. Also, with the tests that I had to take through the CF, I did really well. I passed the CFAT (Aptitude Test) with flying colours, and was one out of the 20% of people that passes the Air Crew test. My medical went over well, after straightening out a possible kink in my application (I used to have asthma).
Anyways, the selection board sat and went through all of the applications a couple of weeks ago, and I was told to expect a phone call within the few weeks after that.
I'm starting to get very anxious, sitting at home just waiting for that one phone call, the most important phone call I think I will ever receive. Even though if I don't get in, I'll still have a fairly good deal through the other universities I applied for, I just think it would be in my best interest to serve my country through such an incredible program.
And so the wait continues!

Michael Ignatieff

Alright, so I'm not sure how many of my readers are Canadian, but I'd really like to have a mini-rant on Liberal party leader Michael Ignatieff.
Basically, I think that he should be promptly escorted out of my country, as he doesn't belong here.
He spent 5 years in the USA, while teaching at Harvard. Personally I think he should have stayed there, rather than coming back to Canada solely to try and become Prime Minister, which quite frankly I'd rather see Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe take power, that's right, I'd rather have the leader of a separatist party run my country than Michael Ignatieff.
He claims to be a good Canadian, and puts on a charade of wanting "the best" for Canada. If the Liberals come to power, he wants to spend 8 billion right away, and rise taxes in order to foot the bill for these expenditures. This would very effectively destroy our economy and all of the progress that the Right Honourable Stephen Harper has worked so hard to help happen.
I don't believe that calling the flag which I will someday fight for a "cheap beer commercial" is any way for a potential leader to act. It is quite disgusting in my opinion.
Agree or disagree, but thanks for listening.
